I will honor God, be faithful to His people, obey His Word, and do His will
There is soo much that could be discussed regarding this one statement and area of life, as without it none of the others have any meaning or purpose. We hope that giving God glory is the point that is resonated over everything that we do.
Honor: To honor God is to act and treat Him with the absolute highest level of regard, respect, reverence, admiration, adoration, awe, praise, submission, and obedience which is due to Him. To honor God is to worship Him in all our attitudes, affections, and actions in life. The essence of what it means to honor God is seen in Jesus’s statement, Matthew 22:37–38, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.”
It is worth noting that honoring God is not limited to external performances as is seen in Jesus’s words, Matthew 15:8–9, “Hypocrites honor God with the words of their mouths but their hearts are far removed from Him.”
Be Faithful to His people: The main idea is that we need to be committed to regularly meeting with and supporting fellow believers. Christ demonstrated how to serve and love those around him and told us to do the same. 1 John 3:16, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Galatians 6:10, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Obey His word: This is exactly as it sounds, we are committed to obeying God. Through His love for us, God has written His commandments and instructions throughout the Bible, we are to learn what it says for ourselves. We are to strive to hit the mark of the instructions given by God by looking at the original intent and not the way it is normally followed. Psalm 119:11, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Matthew 7:24, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” James 1:25, “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”
Do His will: This is a broader sense of demonstrating and spreading God’s love to the world. This involves both lovingly serving locally, while putting our resources towards helping in the work that is being done within the most impoverished communities and unreached people groups around the world. 1 Peter 2:15, “For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.” Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Philippians 2:12-13, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Revelation 2:26, “To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations,”
