Building Resolve

Building Resolve through Discipleship

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience
— Colossians 1:9-11

The purpose of Resolved Discipleship is to teach you to grow and be a strong representative for Jesus. We are fully confident that the steps we lay out here will help you in your walk with Him.

Be a Disciple and Make Disciples

The model commanded by Jesus when He said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

The standard definition of “disciple” (noun) is someone who holds to the teachings of another. A disciple is both a follower and a learner, someone who takes up the ways of someone else. Applied to Jesus, a disciple is someone who learns from His word how to live like Him. It is someone who conforms his or her words and ways to the words and ways of Jesus. These disciples are meant to be reflections of His character and teachings.

The important step here is to read and reread the Bible, starting with the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. You need to personally know what the Bible says, especially the gospels as they contain the first hand report of Jesus’ words of instruction and guidance. As you become familiar with the words of Jesus, also start reading the entire Bible starting in Genesis then you will grow to see how the entirety of God’s Word fits together and all His instructions are vital to every disciple as stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”.

Find a mentor/discipler

Another important step for Resolved Disciples is to have or seek out a mentor that already has a strong walk with the Lord who would be willing to meet on a regular basis to ask tough questions regarding one’s walk with the Lord. In addition to working with a mentor, Resolved Disciples involve spouses, siblings, and/or friends to pray and hold each other accountable for their actions and growth in the Lord. Proverbs 15:22, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Proverbs 18:1, “Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.” Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Post your Resolution

Ask us to provide you with a My Resolution™ which serves as a reminder for you, and those around you, to always be resolved in their walk with the Lord. All true followers of Jesus will bear fruit as stated in John 15, and mature disciples will meet the standards discussed in Ephesians 5-6, 1 Timothy 3, and Titus 2, as well as study and live out all the instructions given in the Scriptures to the best of their ability. We know in and of ourselves, we cannot accomplish any of these things, therefore we resolve to live out this resolution in and through Jesus Christ, wholly dependent on the Spirit of God; see 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 and Psalms 143:10. My Resolution is meant to be framed and posted as a daily reminder to have a full and utter commitment to Yehovah, the God of the Bible.

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
